Especially considered that Grattan is usally so conservative. It would seem that it's starting to come together for David, albeit slowly.

I think that the most interesting idea is that Howard may have been elected by the Tampa issue but may loose on Hicks. Although it shames me to think of or use David's plight in such a callous manner - especially given that I care little for parliamentary democracy.

I don't think that's a callous observation at all. What's callous is how our honorable members of parliament are extremely eager to capitalise on and manipulate public sentiment, regardless of who gets scapegoated in the process.

It'll be interesting to watch how Mori's military career progresses after this - it's probably blown his chances of ever being promoted, but I'm sure he'll get several offers from private sector.
